Is it possible for two people to eat for a week for under $ 25?
[Yes, we know, we are privileged – a majority of this world’s population lives under $ 2 a day for a family. We do what we can to change that.]
So, here are the groceries (supplies / kirana) and veggies for under $ 25 that kicks off our Day One in Hyderabad, India. By a quick estimate, this may have cost us $ 150 in California SF Bay Area. We may be able to live off this for at least a week… and the dal etc will last a lot longer, of course. This was quite a revelation: if frugal living is a happy by-product, we welcome that.
And as usual, Lakshmiji worked her magic and produced yummy, healthy and nutritious food within half an hour. Enjoy!
Tip: The secret to avoiding jet lag is to stay awake all of the first day in a new place and sleep at your normal time (in the new timezone). This is working for us – Just about 24 hours since we landed here in India. Good night!
PS: Here are the lists, so I don’t have to reinvent them for a future trip to the market. For the eagle-eyed among you, congrats! You noticed that the list does not include milk, yoghurt, ghee or other dairy products. We’ve been free of this for a couple weeks now.
