Did we tell you that we have a new member of the family?
It’s been four weeks since Sneha and Raga invited a foster dog into our home. Her official name, given by the rescue organization is “Cookie”. On first glance, seeing how her fur is all white, the name “Lily” suggested itself, and stuck. The color on half her face actually makes her more intriguing, we think.
Over the past four weeks, Lily has gone from being diffident, retreating into the far corner of her crate, to actively seeking our company. Each day, we talk about some new skill that she has mastered. These days, a majority of our family conversation is about Lily’s latest accomplishments. Her coming into our lives has changed our collective consciousness, filling it with Lily-thoughts. Such is the power of cute little ones.
Lily’s parents are strays from south Texas. This rescue organization, Dallas Dogrrr is full of loving caring people that are very competent in what they do. And they do a lot! They provided all the food, toys and vet visits. They do all this in a professional, organized manner, so that we always felt the community support. Shout-out to our long-time friends and dog lovers, Kathy and Lisa, for recommending this organization.
Lily is now four months old. She can go through the night without food, although she does become active and needs company from 1 AM for a couple hours each night, when she chases her tail actively! For the first few weeks at our home, Lakshmiji stayed up with Lily. Today, Lakshmiji slept the night through, as the girls took over the night shift. It reminded me of the ‘babies day out with Dad’ events, during which time lakshmiji, then a young mother of active twin infants, crashed and recouped her energies. Little ones, biped or four-legged, require so much love and attention! Well worth it!
So, what got me started with this post is that today Lily started to wag her tail in recognition, whenever each of us bipeds were around. She is calling us, wagging her tail and clearly telling us that she wants to go from her playpen to the backyard. Currently, her ‘great outdoors’ is limited to the backyard. After she gets her next dose of shots, she can explore the sidewalks, see the ducks and maybe even chase the squirrels?
